Dermatology Research and Education Foundation seeks a medical student dermatology research volunteer for 12 months beginning in June or July 2020 under the direction of Jashin J. Wu, M.D., F.A.A.D. Dr. Wu is Founder and Course Director of the Skin Cancer Symposium (April 7-8, 2021), Symposium for Inflammatory Skin Disease (April 9-11, 2021), 2nd Annual San Diego Dermatology Symposium (June 11-13, 2021), and Dermatology Refresher Symposium (October 1-3, 2021), and Founder and CEO of the Dermatology Research and Education Foundation. In his over 15 years of clinical practice, he has treated over 1500 psoriasis patients, of which over 1000 received an oral agent, biologic, or phototherapy. He is a Councilor for the International Psoriasis Council and a past Medical Board member of the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF). He serves on the American Academy of Dermatology/NPF psoriasis guidelines committee, which published updated 6 psoriasis guidelines in 2019-2020. He is editor or co-editor for 7 books which include Therapy for Severe Psoriasis, 1st edition, 2016; Clinical Cases in Psoriasis, 1st edition; Mild-To-Moderate Psoriasis, 3rd edition, 2014; Moderate-To-Severe Psoriasis, 4th edition, 2014. He is associate editor for the 4th edition of Comprehensive Dermatologic Drug Therapy published in March 2020. He has written over 350 Pubmed articles, of which over 250 are about psoriasis. He is Past President of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Dermatological Society, Board Member of the California Society of Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery (CalDerm), and Board Member of the Pacific Dermatology Association. Dr. Wu has given over 150 psoriasis lectures at medical conferences and dermatology departments/divisions in 11 countries.
The research student will have the opportunity to work on review articles where they can serve as first author as well as retrospective cohort studies. It is a major priority that the research student will author at least 10 publications, which each of the prior or current 21 research students have accomplished.
Two prior physician research fellows and 10 prior research students have matched into dermatology residency, 6 prior research students are currently in the application process, and 5 research students are currently in the research fellowship.
Only students who will have completed the 3rd year of medical school by the start of the research position are being considered at this time.
